Online Resources for Coping with Covid.

Let’s start off by saying this, if you’re a little bored, feeling a little cooped up, that means you’re doing your part – so thank you.

While it’s fair to feel a little stir-crazy, there are tons of free resources being released online to keep you busy and your brain fed. Here are some we have stumbled across, but please feel free to send us any resources you’ve come across.

Better yet, send us the resources and the strain that you’ll be pairing your learning with!

Free online Courses with Coursera

Coursera offers TONS of free online learning courses from a host of reputable post-secondary institutions, including Harvard and Yale. One we’ve been particularly interested in is one from Yale, which is touted as one of their most in-demand courses, “The science of well-being”. It seems particularly relevant now more than ever. But that’s just one of many, many courses available for FREE!

Courses with the Calgary Public Library

While the Calgary Public Library is currently closed as a precautionary measure, they have loads of online resources for both youth and adults. As parents are assuming the role of teachers, this is an amazing tool! Very simply, all you need is your library card number. One of our personal favourites offered is Lynda.com. A great resource for tutorials on software like Microsoft Office or Adobe Creative Suite, plus courses in categories like animation, music, business, design, technology, programming, marketing and photography.

Free online University Art Courses

Not very artsy but creatively curious? Or perhaps you’re an art junkie and you’re looking for areas of inspiration? Artsy has compiled a list of university art courses that take you through different phenomena or time periods to provide inspiration and insight. No, you won’t necessarily be taught a new art skill, but it may spark some creative juices in you.

Courses include: Photography Basics and Beyond: From Smartphone to DSLR; Psychology of Art and Creativity, and Ideas from the History of Graphic Design.

Get reading with Audible

The simple pleasure of books. And with Audible, all you have to do is plug in your headphones. Now, we love the joy of reading a hardcopy book, but sometimes it’s great to throw something on in the background while you work or putz around the house. Audible is an online service operated by Amazon, offering audiobooks. There’s a little something for everyone and it’s a great way to break-up some Netflix binging (No judgment, we speak from experience). Audible offers a 30-day trial for free for everyone!
