STAMPEDE 2020

We will ride again

Come hell or high water – or a pandemic? Unexpected times bring unexpected celebrations. While we’re all feeling a small void in our lives right now, there are still a ton of ways to keep the Stampede spirit alive, despite it being the first year Calgary has ever cancelled its ten day “greatest outdoor show on earth” celebration.

Even if you’re not a fan of Stampede, the clear streets, lack of cowboy décor and haybales has an eerie feeling. Well, we’re here to ease that and get you your mini donut fix.

Mini donut drive-thru

From July 6th to the 11th, you can pick-up your mini donuts, drive-thru style. We kind of dig this old-school style pick-up because then you can take your donuts to your favourite scenic session spot to truly enjoy (once the car is safely off-duty for the day). Bonus: When you purchase your donuts at the Mini Donut Drive-Thru, you get two dozen donuts and two gate admissions to Sneak-a-Peek at Stampede 2021, courtesy of Bell.

Add a little “Yeehaw” to your Zoom meetings

Free downloadable Zoom backgrounds of the Cowboys tent, Coke Stage, Midway and all the iconic spots on the grounds for your virtual meetings.

No, it doesn’t quite compare to tent days at Cowboys, but these backgrounds are a fun way to ease Zoom burnout. Download here. (Plus a few other fun ways you can get your Stampede on at home)

Get your Stampede bar-hopping on

Calgary’s newest beerhall, as well as Calgary’s most-coveted new patio are both hosting Stampede activities from July 3rd to 12th.

Freehouse boasts a collection of local craft beers, tasty cocktails and delicious, shareable meals from the team who brought you Posto and Bonterra, all in the heart of Kensington. Each day of Stampede, Freehouse will be serving up tasty Midway foods from their takeout window between 3 to 6 p.m. They will also be serving up free pancakes (two per customer, until the batter runs out) that pair perfectly with their curated beers! For more information, visit their event listing here.

Craft Beer Market’s Downtown location will be hosting a “Stampede’ish celebration” for the entire 10 days of Stampede. They’ve got hay bales, wagon wheels, boots, hats, classic Stampede country tunes and happy hour from 3 to 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. to close.

The views from the rooftop patio may be even better than the views from the top of the Stampede Ferris Wheel. Their words, not ours, but we might have to test the theory.

Light it up with Bell’s Fireworks Spectacular

You may have caught the spectacular first-round of fireworks on July 3rd to kick-off the would-be Stampede celebrations, but just in case you missed it, there will be another set to close Stampede 2020 on Sunday, July 12th. Pick a spot in the city where you can see the skyline and you should be able to get a great view! More details direct from the Stampede organizers here.

If you’re looking for more ways to celebrate Stampede this year, Tourism Calgary has shared a comprehensive list of everything going on, as well as all the promotions being held during the ten day celebration.
