While sativa and indica may still be the most common ways to select a strain, terpenes really help dial in a personalized experience. Canna-connoisseurs and enthusiasts know that terpenes play a major role in a strain’s taste, scent and overall effect – some consumers believe even more so than sativa, indica classifications, and even THC percentage. Humble Humulene
One of our favourite terpenes is humulene. It’s not one of the primary terpenes (ie. myrcene, limonene, pinene), but it plays a major role in reducing the savagery that is the munchies. Speaking for a friend of course…
It’s easy to see why we would have an affinity for this terpene. If you’re concerned about getting a bad case of the munchies, or just looking for something to help with appetite suppression, humulene is your terpene. Some people do actually shy away from THC products due to the munchies, so this is an important one to note to better align a cannabis product with the varying needs of different consumers.
Humulene boasts a subtle earthy or musky aroma with spicy undertones. The scent and taste profile of humulene is abundant in hops, sage, with secondary notes of ginger and ginseng. If you're looking to enhance the terpene profile in your chosen strain we recommend using a vapourizer. This allows for more controlled temperature settings to really let the terpenes shine!
Humulene may also be listed as alpha-caryophyllene, a member of the caryophyllene terpene family. While beta-caryophyllene won’t elicit the appetite controlling powers that humulene will, anything listed as alpha-caryophyllene will.
